Our Story

How Basalt Started

A stone oven, a small crew, and a stubborn refusal to cut corners.

Fig. 1 — The Oven, Year One

The Beginning

Built by hand, one stone at a time.

Basalt started with an oven before it had a name. Built by hand from volcanic basalt stone over a single winter, it runs at 900°F and gives every pie its char in under 90 seconds. The restaurant grew up around it.

No shortcuts was never a slogan — it's the whole reason the oven took a winter to finish instead of a weekend.

What We Believe

Three rules we don't break.

Simple Ingredients

San Marzano tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, a twelve-hour dough. Nothing hides behind a long ingredient list.

Real Fire

Wood-fired, 900°F, every night. No gas shortcuts, no reheats.

The Crew

Who's in the kitchen.

M

Marco Belline

Owner & Pizzaiolo

Built the oven himself. Still stretches the dough for every Margherita.

R

Renata Silva

Sous Chef

Runs the starters and salads — the reason the burrata sells out most nights.

J

Jonah Pierce

Front of House

Knows every regular's order before they sit down.

Come taste it yourself.

Reserve ahead for weekends — walk-ins always welcome otherwise.
